Responding to Educational Needs of Learners with Disabilities in Emergencies: An online Teacher Training Course
This online course aims to ensure that teachers of learners with disabilities continue to learn at this critical time. In order to achieve this, it focuses on the creation of relevant learning materials in accessible formats for teacher of children with disabilities at the primary level and developing capacities of teachers through online training to support children with disabilities.
What are the project goals?
The COVID-19 pandemic is affecting millions of learners across all levels in the world. Children with disabilities,in particular, are facing greater challenges following the move to online teaching programmes, resulting in digital exclusion and increased risk of being left behind due to the absence of appropriate assistive technology, access to the internet, and accessible learning materials and support.
Nine GPE-eligible countries in Asia (Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan,Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Timor-Leste)
These nine targeted countries are home to some 25 million people with disabilities2, whose vulnerabiity in the education system has been magnified by the crisis
Development of an online teacher training course to support children with disabilities
The online teacher training course was piloted in four GPE ESPIG- eligible countries in Asia (Bhutan, Cambodia, Lao PDR, and Timor-Leste). The course is now open for teachers in the region and beyond with additional languages: Thai and Vietnamese. The main course is to provide teachers with training in the following areas:
